Interim Division Head of General Internal Medicine

General Internal Medicine
Tara O'Brien

On behalf of Dr. Paula Harvey, Physician in Chief, Dept. of Medicine, Women's College Hospital

Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased  to announce that Dr. Tara O’Brien will be assuming the role of Interim Division Head of General Internal Medicine at Women's College Hospital effective September 1st 2017.

Tara has been a clinician-teacher in the DoM for over 10 years. Over this time, Tara has focused on developing and integrating new models of care for patients with multiple chronic medical conditions in the ambulatory setting. Tara is the physician lead for the Acute Ambulatory Care Unit (AACU). She has grown this model by two separate mechanisms; Seamless Care Optimizing the Patient Experience (SCOPE) and Acute Ambulatory Assessment to Avoid Inpatient Admission. Tara is also the physician lead for the Virtual Ward Model of Care first established in 2010. Tara is an outstanding, talented teacher and educator. In 2014 she was appointed associate program director for the GIM program at University of Toronto and subsequently transitioned to program director in 2015.

I would like to sincerely thank Dr. Tina Borschel for all of her contributions to the division of General Internal Medicine and the Department of Medicine at WCH and the University of Toronto. She did a fantastic job and we congratulate her on all of her achievements since her appointment in 2009. We would like to wish her all the best with her relocation to the US. We hope to keep connected!

Regards,

Paula Harvey
